Air Woodlands is a local, family owned company. It was started here, by one person, and it has only ever changed hands once, to the man that person chose. 1978

Sam Dillion starts Air Woodlands

Sam had been working for a real estate inspection company when he learned to repair air conditioners from a man he worked with. Something about it stuck. He got his own license and decided it was better to work for himself than to keep working for someone else. He named the new company Air Woodlands because he lived in The Woodlands, and because starting it with the letter A put the listing at the front of the phone book, which was how people actually found a business in 1978.

2011

Jeremy Laurence becomes a partner

Thirty three years in, Sam brought on a partner. His own description of him, from the company’s own about page: “Jeremy is a family man with a lovely wife and 3 children, very responsible and honorable.” Sam Dillion, founder.

Sam hands the lead to Jeremy

Seven years after the partnership began, Sam stepped back and handed the business to Jeremy outright. This was his own call, made public on the company’s own site, not a quiet fade or a forced exit: “I feel confident and happy to turn my business over to Jeremy. I feel my business is in good hands, that he will continue to run it with the same care and attention that I have, and I feel he will be a great success.” Sam Dillion, founder.

Why it grew

Weekend calls, in the early years, when there was no steady paycheck yet.

Sam’s own framing of it is plain: the business grew because he showed up not just during regular hours but on weekends and holidays too, and he treated every customer the way he wanted to be treated himself. That is still the operating hours today. Air Woodlands has run twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, since those first hard years, not as a marketing line but as the actual way the phone gets answered.

Four names come up again and again in the company’s public reviews: Hope, who runs sales, and technicians Jeremy, Eamon and Scott. If one of them answers your call, that is not a coincidence. It is a small team, and it is still the same one.

In 2025 the company ran the Air Woodlands Gives Back campaign, giving away one free HVAC system to a family in need in Montgomery County. That round closed, but it is the kind of thing a company that plans to be here in another forty eight years does with its own money.
